If you own a website or are thinking of starting one, there is a good chance at some stage that you will have to manipulate an image for use on your website. Image manipulation software such as Adobe Photoshop can be very expensive and is really aimed at the professional market. We have therefore identified a very competent free alternative for our customers called The Gimp.
1. You need to download 3 programs. All source and help files for The Gimp are available from:
a) install GTK first
b) then GIMP
c) then help files if you want them - they are quite large so make sure you only install the English language pack.
2. The Gimp is one of the leading opens source editors and as such, have done a good job on their support pages. Importantly, their quickie pages have instruction for the most commonly asked questions, which we believe covers what most of our customes will need to do. These pages can be found at http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Lite_Quickies/ .
There is another free alternative to The Gimp called Irfanview and you can get it at the official Irfanview website. Check out these irfanview tutorials from indeavors.com
